SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR FARMERS' CHILDREN IN AGRICULTURE FACULTIES

At the same time, the company, which aims to increase qualified manpower in the agricultural sector and promote agricultural engineering with the social responsibility projects it has been carrying out for years, provides non-refundable scholarship support to a certain number of farmers' children who study at agricultural faculties and need economic support.

The scope of the GÜBRETAŞ Education Scholarship, which has been given to undergraduate students since 2007, was expanded in 2017 to support academic studies in the sector. Thus, a certain number of master's and doctoral students with thesis who are receiving postgraduate education in the field of agriculture can also benefit from scholarship support.

Applications have started for the GÜBRETAŞ Education Scholarship, which is determined as 350 TL per month for undergraduate scholarship students, 700 TL for Master's with Thesis students and 1,050 TL for PhD students in the 2020-2021 academic period.

Applications for the GÜBRETAŞ Education Scholarship are required to be the child of a farmer and to have registered for the first time this year in an undergraduate or graduate program in one of the departments of Horticulture, Agricultural Structures and Irrigation, Plant Protection, Field Crops, Soil Science and Plant Nutrition and Biosystems Engineering of the agricultural faculties.

Students who want to enter the relevant departments of the Faculty of Agriculture this year and benefit from GÜBRETAŞ Education Scholarship support will be able to apply for the scholarship on the company's website until October 23, 2020. The GÜBRETAŞ Education Scholarship application results, for which payments are made for 9 months during the education period, will be announced on the company's website (www.gubretas.com.tr) on 13 November 2020.

Making evaluations on the subject, GÜBRETAŞ General Manager İbrahim Yumaklı emphasized the place and importance of agricultural education in the country's history and said, “Our country has a deep-rooted history in agricultural education. Halkalı Agricultural School, the first agricultural college in our country, was founded in 1846. In other words, our country has closely followed these developments since the period when scientific methods began to be used in agriculture globally and established an agricultural college 174 years ago in this context. With the food needs of the rapidly increasing population in the world, the agricultural sector is becoming increasingly important and its economic volume continues to grow. When we started the GÜBRETAŞ Education Scholarship application in 2007 in our country, where agricultural production has a significant share, only 14 universities had agricultural faculties. "Thanks to the increasing interest in agricultural faculties along with the importance of food and agriculture, the number of these faculties has reached 39 today," he said.

Stating that GÜBRETAŞ, which works to increase productivity and quality by spreading knowledge-based and conscious agricultural practices in agriculture, gives special importance to agricultural faculties in line with this mission, İbrahim Yumaklı said, "It is very important to research and develop scientific methods for the development of agriculture in our universities, where academic knowledge is produced. For this reason, as GÜBRETAŞ, we are in close cooperation with agricultural faculties. We convey the knowledge and experience of our valuable professors in these faculties to our farmers with sample projects and trainings. On the other hand, we provide scholarship support to students of the faculty of agriculture, whom we see as the future of agriculture. When these young people complete their education, they guide their families and communities on correct agricultural practices, and some of them contribute to agriculture with sectoral and academic careers. "Seeing our young people who received GÜBRETAŞ Education Scholarships in previous years and have reached certain points in the sector today gives us pride and hope," he said.

Pointing out that one of the two important criteria for benefiting from the scholarship is that the student's family is engaged in agriculture, Yumaklı said, "We are careful to ensure that the students to whom GÜBRETAŞ provides scholarship support are young people who have grown up with the soil since childhood, know the soil and know agricultural activities."
