A protocol was signed between GÜBRETAŞ, the leading company in agricultural R&D activities, and Sabahattin Zaim University (İZÜ) to ensure university-private sector cooperation.
GÜBRETAŞ has been strengthening the R&D studies it has been carrying out in recent years with university collaborations in order to provide new added values to the national economy in the field of sustainable agriculture. GÜBRETAŞ has added a new one to its university-industry collaborations, which constitute an important pillar of R&D studies. Following Gebze Technical University and Yıldız Technical University, GÜBRETAŞ signed a new cooperation protocol with Sabahattin Zaim University within the scope of industry-university cooperation.
GÜBRETAŞ, which pioneers the plant nutrition sector with its 70 years of corporate experience, continues its work to ensure the sustainability of agriculture in our country and to increase efficiency and quality in agricultural production.
The company, which stands out with its R&D investments aimed at changing fertilizer use habits in the sector and developing new generation plant nutrition products, as well as its activities to popularize conscious agricultural practices among producers to increase productivity and quality, has been strengthening industry-university collaborations in recent years.
GÜBRETAŞ, which signed a protocol agreement with Gebze Technical University in 2019 and Yıldız Technical University in 2020, also cooperated with Sabahattin Zaim University, one of the leading foundation universities in our country. On Friday, October 8, at the university campus, GÜBRETAŞ Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Fahrettin Poyraz, General Manager İbrahim Yumaklı, Sabahattin Zaim University Rector Prof. Dr. At the Cooperation Protocol signing ceremony held with the participation of Mehmet Bulut, it was stated that joint projects will be carried out within the scope of university-industry cooperation in the field of agricultural research and development.
“GÜBRETAŞ continues its responsibility in all stages of sustainable agriculture in our country, from the supply of plant nutrition products to their delivery to farmers, with its R&D studies carried out with our universities.”
Mentioning the importance of agricultural sustainability in his speech, GÜBRETAŞ Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Fahrettin Poyraz; “The world population is expected to exceed 9 billion in the next 30 years, however, the area for agricultural production in the world is very limited. To ensure global food security and end the problem of hunger, agricultural production needs to be increased by 50 to 70%. In addition to the insufficient land area available for agriculture, agricultural areas are also decreasing with population growth. Along with these factors, one of the most important problems awaiting solution is the climate crisis in agricultural production.
In this context, of course, agricultural sustainability and R&D studies are of vital importance. We plan to bring a new breath to the fertilizer industry, which depends on imports of raw materials, especially in our country, with new generation local and national fertilizer studies. "In this context, we are trying to strengthen our collaborations focused on product development in the field of agricultural production with both our universities and public institutions," he said.
Dr. said that they aim to change the fertilizer usage habits in the sector with the new generation local and national products to be developed. Fahrettin Poyraz said, “GÜBRETAŞ has been working together with producers for many years and trying to raise awareness in order to use fertilizers correctly and effectively. We constantly emphasize that fertilization should be done optimally and with correct methods for the future of our soil. In addition, we aim to minimize raw material imports in the sector with local and national new generation products that we will develop through R&D studies. "The effectiveness of the products used by our producers will be increased and there will be an increase in productivity and quality with these innovative plant nutrition approaches," he said.
Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Fahrettin Poyraz said, “GÜBRETAŞ continues its responsibility in all stages of sustainable agriculture in our country, from the supply of plant nutrition products to their delivery to farmers, with its R&D studies carried out with our universities. Today, we are taking another important step for university-industry cooperation. He concluded his words by saying, “I hope this collaboration will bring goodness to the academy and the industry.”
Rector Prof. about the R&D cooperation protocol signed between GÜBRETAŞ and Sabahattin Zaim University. Dr. Mehmet Bulut noted: “Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University is a research university. We create our infrastructure and intellectual capital accordingly. In this context, we attach great importance to cooperation with industry and provide valuable contributions to each other. This protocol we signed will also be a beneficial step. We think that universities and research institutions should take more responsibility so that our country's people can be fed in a healthy, correct, conscious and high-quality but also economical way. If we can establish a healthy and correct relationship with mother earth, our success for the future of agriculture will increase. I believe that with this cooperation, we will create a strong synergy with a distinguished institution such as GÜBRETAŞ, which has been serving the country's agriculture for many years, and that the R&D studies we will carry out will contribute to the agricultural development of our country, the joint construction of a better future and the national agricultural policy. It is a nice coincidence that this cooperation protocol was signed in the historical Halkalı Agricultural and Veterinary School building, which was founded by Abdulhamid II and where the first modern agricultural studies of our country were carried out.”
General Manager İbrahim Yumaklı said, “GÜBRETAŞ is an institution that reflects its experience in the field of plant nutrition to its R&D vision. In this sense, we are happy to cooperate with Sabahattin Zaim University. R&D studies carried out in the field of plant nutrition are a very critical threshold for ensuring the sustainability of agriculture and food safety. Both GÜBRETAŞ R&D Center and the valuable academicians of Sabahattin Zaim University work with this awareness in their R&D activities. The cooperation protocol we signed with Sabahattin Zaim University will add value to our agricultural production. “I believe that we will carry agricultural R&D studies to a stronger future with the rich academic staff of the university and the experience of our academics.” said.
General Manager Yumaklı said, “We signed a ten-year cooperation protocol with Gebze Technical University in 2019. In a short period of 2 years, this cooperation began to bear fruit. In 2020, we established an R&D Greenhouse within the university to provide the infrastructure for the development of domestic and national biotechnology-containing plant nutrition products. In the same year, studies began for the 2244 Industrial Doctoral Project approved by TÜBİTAK. At the same time, our work on the TÜBİTAK TEYDEB 1505 project continues within the scope of the protocol we signed with Yıldız Technical University.”
Stating that they will do useful work that will contribute to agricultural production with the cooperation protocol they signed with Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, General Manager Yumaklı continued his words as follows: "Also, Mr. Prof. Dr. As Mehmet Bulut stated, it is important for us to sign this valuable cooperation in the historical Halkalı Agricultural and Veterinary School building, where the first modern agricultural studies of our country were carried out.” He finished as follows.
